This is the wood, and even being a design concept that emerged with the advent of civilization, wood siding designs still appeal to the nuances of the modern man. Maybe it is the design palette, these never staling exterior wood siding designs. Bevel, Board & Batten, Channel, Tongue & Groove, Wavy Edge Bevel, these designs are the most lasting approaches for exterior wood designs, and they have the tried and tested formulae to fit pleasantly to almost any design concept, adding warmth and charisma. Here are the approaches for exterior wood siding designs. Bevel To make a bevel, a wood material of certain thickness is re-sawed at an angle which then produces two materials with each having a thicker one edge than the other. It is then installed horizontally. The resulting inclination then produces a face that is slightly slanting upwards and an attractive shadow cast under every siding. The Western Red Cedar is widely used as a bevel design material because of its predisposition to produce knots which can be very beautiful. In fact wood with higher knot grades are often preferred on country homes, exuding casual warmth typical in every countryside homestead. Wavy Edge Bevel Uncoordinated and random designs are a sparking interest in siding designs, and often it is being correlated as ‘natural’. So exterior wood siding designs have begun to integrated naturalness in its features, slapdash designing becomes an innovation in designing, especially bevel. While there are no standard dimensions for board & batten, you can start with frequently used combination of 1” x 3” battens and 1” x 10” boards. Different dimensions have also drastically different looks, and scale differences have also significantly different the wood dimensions. Doing a board & batten, the boards are used to cover the raw wall face. Normally, boards are attached upright and the battens are used to cover the joints. The battens have significant use over the design, they cover the edges that without, can leak in water of moisture and destroy the siding.
