A board & batten is a vertical design made of two wood siding boards with different dimensions. While there are no standard dimensions for board & batten, you can start with frequently used combination of 1” x 3” battens and 1” x 10” boards. Different dimensions have also drastically different looks, and scale differences have also significantly different the wood dimensions.

Doing a board & batten, the boards are used to cover the raw wall face. Normally, boards are attached upright and the battens are used to cover the joints. The battens have significant use over the design, they cover the edges that without, can leak in water of moisture and destroy the siding.
